As Nigerians prepare for the festive season, the Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has declared a zero-tolerance stance against criminal activities across the state.
The Corps Commander, Brigadier-General Alade Adedigba (rtd.), made this declaration on Tuesday during a show of force conducted around Abeokuta, the state capital, aimed at boosting public confidence and deterring criminal elements.
Adedigba assured residents and visitors that the corps is adequately equipped and fully prepared to maintain law and order before, during and after the yuletide period.
According to him, the exercise followed a recent joint and coordinated show of force involving security agencies from Ogun, Oyo and Lagos states, which covered major routes from Berger to Ibadan.
“For residents and travellers moving across the state, the message is clear: it is safe to travel. In particular, the Sagamu–Ore Expressway is secure,” he said.
The Amotekun commander explained that the show of force, which began in Abeokuta, would be extended to other local government areas to further reassure residents that Ogun State remains peaceful and safe.
He highlighted the high level of collaboration among security agencies, noting that the exercise was designed to demonstrate the operational readiness of Amotekun operatives.
“The level of jointness and synergy among security agencies has been top-notch. This show of force underscores our preparedness and resolve. Once intelligence is received, swift action will follow,” Adedigba stated.
He disclosed that additional personnel and patrol vehicles have been deployed across strategic locations, particularly entry and exit points of the state, to address the expected influx of travellers during the festive season.
“The inlets and outlets of the state are well covered and effectively dominated. We are taking no chances so residents can sleep with their eyes closed. Ogun State is not a safe haven for criminals,” he warned.
The commandant commended the Ogun State Government for strengthening the agency with modern technological equipment, which he said has significantly enhanced operational efficiency.
He also praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing strong institutional support to security agencies in the state.
“The governor has put all necessary measures in place to support us, leaving no excuse for failure in the discharge of our duties,” he said.
On the ongoing debate over the establishment of state police, Adedigba described the move as timely and progressive, adding that Ogun State would be among the first to commence full operations if approved.
“If state policing is approved today, Ogun State is fully ready to key in and begin operations immediately,” he added.
