US rapper Fatman Scoop dies after collapsing on stage

Fatman Scoop, the US rapper, has passed away after collapsing at a concert in Connecticut.

BBC reports that the music star’s team said he passed away halfway through his set at the Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut.

MN2S, Scoop’s booking agency, was quoted as confirming his death in a statement.

“Scoop was a beloved figure in the music world, whose work was loved by countless fans across the globe,” it said.

“His legacy will live on through his timeless music. His iconic voice, infectious energy, and great personality made an indelible mark on the industry.”

Scoop, whose birth name is Isaac Freeman III, was an influential figure in New York City’s hip-hop scene in the 1990s.

He featured on popular songs including the Grammy award-winning ‘Lose Control’ by Missy Elliott and ‘It’s Like That’ by Mariah Carey.

Scoop is also known for his hit ‘Be Faithful’, which was originally released in 1999 but garnered international success in 2003.

In 2004, the rapper appeared on the UK TV series Chancers on Channel 4, which featured musicians mentoring aspiring UK artistes looking to achieve success in the US.

He was also a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA, which aired in 2015.

There, he was the third housemate to be evicted.

Scoop was due to perform at the UK’s Reminisce Festival on September 7.

He was 53.
