The Agbaakin of Ikija Kingdom, Dr. Oluwaseun Ogunsanya, is set to take part as one of the distinguished horse riders at the forthcoming Lisabi Festival 2026, in what organisers describe as a symbolic display of honour, heritage and leadership within Egba land.

The 39th edition of the festival, scheduled for March 28, 2026, will feature the traditional horse procession, one of its most revered highlights, bringing together title holders, cultural figures and community leaders across Oke Ona Egba and beyond.

Ogunsanya’s participation comes months after he was conferred with the prestigious Agbaakin chieftaincy title by the Ikija Kingdom, in recognition of his contributions to community development, cultural preservation and academic excellence.

Widely regarded as a cultural advocate and scholar, Ogunsanya maintains deep ancestral ties to Ikija through his maternal lineage, while also being a prominent son of Ilawo Kingdom on his paternal side, tracing his roots to the historic Balogun Laadi Ilawo dynasty.

His emergence among the horse riders is seen by community stakeholders as a continuation of the responsibilities tied to his title, one that symbolises courage, leadership and service within the traditional Egba structure.

The Lisabi Festival, held annually in honour of the legendary Egba hero Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, is known for celebrating unity, valor and cultural identity.

The horse procession, in particular, serves as a visual expression of prestige, with participants often drawn from respected chiefs and high-ranking figures.

Organisers say this year’s edition, themed around honouring Balogun Worò, will further spotlight individuals who embody the values of heritage and community advancement.

Observers noted that Dr. Ogunsanya’s inclusion in the procession reinforces his standing as both a traditional title holder and a bridge between modern scholarship and indigenous cultural identity.

His participation is expected to add to the pageantry of the festival while underscoring the enduring relevance of Egba traditions in contemporary society.
