Frank Mba, a deputy inspector-general of police (DIG), and seven other DIGs have retired from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as part of the new changes in the leadership structure.
The retirement is sequel to the appointment of Tunji Disu as the inspector-general of police by President Bola Tinubu to replace Kayode Egbetokun.
Prior to the appointment, Disu was an assistant inspector-general of police (AIG) — a rank below the DIG.
In a statement on Friday, the Police Service Commission (PSC) announced that seven AIGs have been promoted to the rank of DIG following oral interview and written examination conducted on Friday.
The newly promoted DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
Torty Njoku Kalu, PSC spokesperson, said Fayoade Adegoke, who was promoted to the rank of DIG in February 2026, will now join the force management team.
Brief Bio Of Mba
Mba served in several important positions in the force since he joined in May 1992 as a cadet Inspector officer.
Mba, a indigene of Ezimo in Udenu LGA of Enugu state, was the best graduating cadet inspector in academics at the Police Academy, Kano.
In June 2023, the PSC approved the appointment of Mba as DIG to replace the retired John Amadi as the most senior officer of the south-east extraction in the police management team.
The PSC said Mba was promoted because he is the most senior police officer from the south-east zone of the country.
Mba was promoted to DIG — three months after he was promoted to the rank of AIG.
Mba served as commissioner of police in Ogun state, commissioner of police in charge of the border patrol force at the force headquarters.
He held various operational commands, including area commander in Ajah and Festac in Lagos. He was also a two-term force spokesperson.
Mba studied law at the University of Lagos, and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2002.
He later earned a master’s degree in law with distinction from the University of Dundee in Scotland
