Clerics preach unity, devotion and prayers for Nigeria

The Publisher of Great Achiever Magazine, Yomi Ogunsanu, on Saturday hosted the 2026 edition of his annual Ramadan Tafsir in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

The well-attended Islamic lecture, held at his hometown on February 21, drew Muslim faithful from within and outside Ago-Iwoye, who gathered to reflect on the spiritual significance of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Tafsir was officiated by Imam Akorede Badru of Igan Itun Nla Mosque, who delivered a sermon centred on devotion, unity and service to humanity.

In his address, Imam Badru congratulated Muslims across the world for witnessing another Ramadan, describing the sacred month as a period for seeking Allah’s forgiveness and earning increased rewards through acts of worship, including supplication, prayer and charity.

He noted that Ramadan, being one of the five pillars of Islam, is a time of fasting, worship, communal gathering and selfless service, and urged adherents to observe it with utmost piety and sincerity.

The cleric also charged Muslim faithful to use the period to pray for Nigeria, expressing hope that peace, unity and progress would prevail in the country.

Imam Badru commended Yomi Ogunsanu for sustaining the family’s legacy of religious and community service following the demise of his father, Alhaji S.O. Ogunsanu, a respected Islamic leader in Ago-Iwoye who passed away two decades ago.

According to him, the late Alhaji Ogunsanu contributed immensely to the growth of Islam in the community, particularly through development projects at Igan Itun Nla Mosque, where his legacy remains visible.

He therefore urged the publisher and his siblings to continue in their father’s footsteps by upholding the values of service, humility and commitment to the Islamic faith.

Also speaking at the event, Mufassir Ismail Bello delivered a lecture titled, “Unity: The Cornerstone of Islam as a Religion, Why Disunity Among Muslims?”
Bello stressed the need for stronger unity among Muslims, noting that Islam is fundamentally a religion of peace and that disunity has no place among its adherents.

He decried what he described as factionalisation within the Muslim community, emphasising that Islamic practice is universal and uniform across the globe.

“Muslims across the world observe the mandatory five daily prayers, and during each prayer session, the respective rakats are the same everywhere. This shows that Islam is one,” he said.

Bello attributed misunderstandings among some Islamic leaders and followers to misinformation and misinterpretation of the Holy Quran, urging scholars and leaders to continually seek deeper knowledge to guide their followers properly.

He also encouraged Muslims to remain conscious of their cultural environment while practising Islam, without compromising the core tenets of the faith.

The event featured recitations of several verses of the Holy Quran, followed by detailed interpretations to enlighten the congregation, while special prayers were offered to conclude the Tafsir.
