Residents of the Shotoye Alakaloko family in the Olomore area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, have issued a Save-Our-Souls (SOS) message to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunowo, over what they described as a renewed invasion by suspected land grabbers.
The community alleges that a surveyor identified as Lukman Adebowale is behind the group accused of terrorising the area through forceful occupation and violent intimidation.
Speaking to journalists, the Baale of the community, Chief Nurudeen Solaimon Alakaloko, said the residents have lived in fear for over two months following repeated incursions. He explained that the latest incident occurred on Saturday when the group allegedly returned and caused panic among residents.
“They are not members of our community, and we do not share boundaries with them. They first came months ago, destroyed properties and took valuable materials, including roofing sheets. We have reported this many times,” Chief Alakaloko stated.
The community says several petitions have already been submitted to the Inspector General of Police, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, and the Governor’s office in Abeokuta, supported with certified court documents.
According to Chief Alakaloko, two separate court rulings—including a Trial Court and a Court of Appeal judgement in Ibadan—affirm the family’s ownership of the land. Copies of the rulings and a registered survey plan were said to have been attached to previous petitions.
The community insists that only swift action from security agencies, the State Task Force on Illegalities, and government intervention can prevent the situation from escalating.
“We are appealing to IGP Egbetokun and Governor Abiodun to intervene. We believe in the State Government’s commitment to curbing land grabbing. We just want peace and protection from those trying to reap where they did not sow,” he added.
Residents are calling for an immediate restoration of peace and protection for lives and property.
