Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, has expressed deep sorrow over the road accident involving Nigerian-born world boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway earlier on Monday.
In a statement issued after the incident, Senator Daniel described the crash, which reportedly claimed two lives, as a “tragic and painful loss,” noting that the development had thrown Ogun East and the sporting community into mourning.
“I am particularly pained by the loss of two lives in the unfortunate incident. On behalf of the people of Ogun East Senatorial District, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased,” the statement read.
He prayed for comfort for the bereaved families and also wished Anthony Joshua and the other injured occupant a swift and full recovery.
“I also pray for the speedy and full recovery of Anthony Joshua and the other occupant who sustained injuries,” he added.
Senator Daniel stressed that the crash once again underscored the urgent need for improved highway safety and better caution among motorists on Nigerian roads.
“This sad occurrence highlights the need for greater caution by motorists and sustained efforts by relevant authorities to improve safety on our highways,” he stated.
He concluded by praying for the repose of the souls of the departed.
