The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commenced mobilisation of its members and affiliate unions for a nationwide protest against festering security challenges in the country.
The Congress, alongside some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) across 36 states in the country and the Federal Capital Territory mapped some routes they would follow during what was tagged “peaceful protest”.
According to the Acting General Secretary of the Congress, Benson Upah, the protest will commence as early as 7:30am at Labour House in the nation’s capital, where all protesters would converge.
Salient Times reports that issues of kidnapping, unwarranted killings and other criminalities in the country have been on the increase in recent time —the development that drew the attention of the United States.
Giving an update on the planned protest, Upah explained that the Congress took the decision to demand urgent and sustained action by the state to decisively address the festering insecurity situation in Nigeria.
In an official invitation extended to Our Correspondent, he said, “Greetings from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership.
“We write to inform you of the resolution of the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress to fully mobilise all NLC affiliates/state councils for a nationwide protest rally against insecurity scheduled for 17th December 2025.
“The Congress had taken this decision to demand urgent and sustained action by the state to decisively address the festering insecurity situation in Nigeria.
“You are hereby invited to cover the protest rally. The convergence point is Labour House, Central Business District, Abuja, time is 7:30 a.m.
“The protest rally will involve the peaceful procession of workers and civil society allies within designated routes. Please accept the assurances of our highest esteem.”
