The Provost of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) College of Security Management, Abeokuta, Assistant Commandant General (ACG) Niyi Olufisayo Akintelure, has charged newly trained officers to demonstrate the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and responsibility in the handling of firearms and intelligence operations.
Addressing the Passing Out Parade of 165 officers who completed the Arms Handling and Tactical Discipline Course at the College in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, ACG Akintelure described the event as a significant milestone in the Corps’ ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism and operational readiness.
The graduating officers were drawn from various operational units under the COTRAGAL 030, FOAHT 019, and AGRO-RANGER 017 batches, and had undergone intensive physical, mental, and tactical training.
“You have learned not only how to bear arms but how to do so responsibly, within the bounds of law, ethics, and national service,” ACG Akintelure said, emphasizing that firearms in the hands of security personnel must never be used for intimidation or abuse.
He reminded the officers that their primary mandate is the protection of lives, property, and critical national infrastructure.
“The firearm you now carry is not a symbol of personal power; it is a national trust placed in your hands to defend peace and unity,” he stated.
The Provost further reiterated the NSCDC motto—Discipline, Integrity, Vigilance, and Patriotism—urging the graduates to embody these values at all times, especially in difficult or high-pressure situations.
“The true strength of an officer is not in the trigger, but in the restraint and discipline displayed under provocation,” he added.
ACG Akintelure praised the training instructors for their dedication and commended the families of the graduates for their support throughout the training period. He also conveyed the goodwill of the Commandant-General and the Corps’ management, urging the newly certified officers to serve as worthy ambassadors of the NSCDC.
“Serve with courage, defend with honour, and uphold the dignity of the uniform you wear,” he said.
The ceremony featured parade displays and was attended by senior government officials, representatives of sister security agencies, invited dignitaries, and families of the graduating officers. It concluded with the Corps’ resounding declaration:
