The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured journalists of robust security arrangements ahead of the 2025 Council election of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

State Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, gave the assurance on Thursday when members of the Ogun NUJ Electoral Committee paid a courtesy visit to the Command headquarters in Abeokuta.

Addressing the delegation, Ekundayo emphasized the importance of maintaining peace before, during and after the election, urging all stakeholders to act responsibly and avoid actions capable of triggering crisis.

“In every election, there will always be a winner and a loser,” she said. “We encourage all participants to be law-abiding. Our officers will be fully on ground to ensure orderliness and a smooth process.”

The Commandant warned against violence, stressing that elections are democratic exercises that must not lead to loss of life or destruction of property.

She added, “Elections should not generate crises. We are aware there may be disagreements among parties, but we don’t want any incident that threatens lives or property. We will do our best that day.”

Ekundayo further pledged comprehensive security coverage of the NUJ premises and called for stronger collaboration with journalists, particularly in the area of intelligence sharing.

“We will ensure the NUJ environment is adequately secured for a peaceful election. Work with us on intelligence sharing — we need journalists in this regard,” she said.

Earlier, Chairman of the 2025 Ogun NUJ Electoral Committee, Comrade Abiodun Taiwo, said the visit was to formally seek the Corps’ support for a hitch-free election.

“We want a crisis-free election, and we are here to seek the NSCDC’s security support,” he stated.
