President Bola Tinubu, today December 2, met with Abia State governor, Alex Otti, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, over ongoing efforts to secure the release of the convicted leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The meeting comes barely days after the governor paid a visit to Kanu at a prison facility in Sokoto State, where he is serving his life sentence.

Otti had visited Kanu in the company of his younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu, the Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials of the Sokoto State Government were also present during the visit.

Recall that the Abia State governor had earlier announced that his administration was pursuing an agreed strategy to secure Kanu’s release, describing the matter as a priority for the state.

“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated, and will continue to work on, the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” Otti said through his media aide.

It is believed that Tuesday’s meeting with President Tinubu is part of the ongoing effort to push for a political and legal resolution to the matter.
