The Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has commenced a specialised training programme for civil engineering students on the use of QuickCivilSeries-QuickStructure 9.0 software for structural design and detailing. The workshop, held at the Ministry’s conference hall, is designed to equip students with practical skills in structural analysis, reinforced concrete design, and detailing in line with global engineering practices.

Declaring the training open, the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ben Osy Okoh, highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to promoting innovation, digital competence, and experiential learning. He explained that proficiency in engineering software is now essential for accuracy, quality control, and efficient project delivery. The participants were selected across five categories — 10 each from 300 Level, 400 Level, 500 Level, HND I, and HND II. The training, which is completely free, comes with free licensed software and will be delivered in three batches to ensure hands-on, focused learning.

During the sessions, participants engaged in model creation, load interpretation, structural detailing, reinforced concrete design, and automated report generation. The programme provides practical exposure that strengthens the link between academic learning and real engineering practice, helping students understand how digital tools support modern project delivery.

Reflecting on the experience, Okonkwo Emmanuel Chibisi, a student from ESUT, noted that the training broadened his understanding of structural design principles and helped clarify challenges he previously encountered in analysing and detailing structural elements. Another participant, Chime Gold Chinoyeremu, described QuickCivilSeries-QuickStructure as an excellent tool for basic analysis and reinforced concrete design, encouraging other civil engineering students to embrace such digital skills.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining similar capacity-building programmes that enhance digital competence, strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, and prepare young engineers for the evolving demands of the construction sector.
