Residents of Taura and Kwalam communities in Jigawa State have erupted in joy following the restoration of electricity after 16 years of total blackout.

The communities have endured a complete blackout for over sixteen years, a situation that has crippled small businesses, increased the cost of living, and limited access to essential services such as potable water, healthcare, and modern communication facilities.

Reacting to the development, community members explained that the lack of electricity had severely affected livelihoods and access to basic services. They added that the restoration of power, which some of them described as a historic moment, will bring relief to households and businesses that have struggled for years due to the absence of electricity.

Speaking at the official launch of the project during the Citizens Engagement Forum in Taura, Governor Umar Namadi said the initiative is part of his campaign promises to reconnect 104 communities with a stable power supply in Ringim and Taura local government areas.

He added that rural and urban electrification forms part of the present administration’s broader agenda of improving energy access, stimulating economic growth, and reducing rural-urban migration.

Commissioner of Power and Energy, Surajo A. Musa, said the state government has invested heavily in rehabilitating old lines, replacing damaged transformers, and upgrading distribution networks to ensure stable and sustainable electricity in the affected communities.

He urged the communities to take full ownership of the project.
