Abeokuta — The Egba General Title Chiefs have concluded plans to host a grand civic reception in honour of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, as part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of his reign.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the historic Ake Palace in Abeokuta and will commence at 12:00 noon.

More than 200 Egba chiefs are expected to attend the ceremony, which will feature speeches, goodwill messages, tributes, prizes and musical entertainment.

Speaking with journalists ahead of the celebration, the Chairman of the Egba General Title Chiefs, Chief Israel Akanni Akinwale, FAAC, Baagbimo of Egbaland, revealed that the group will undertake a landmark project in honour of the revered monarch.

According to Chief Akinwale, the chiefs have resolved to build and donate a 2,000-seater lecture theatre to the newly established Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMSA).

The facility, to be named “Oba Adedotun Gbadebo Lecture Theatre,” will serve as the group’s anniversary gift to the Alake.

“This gesture is our contribution toward educational development in Egbaland and a demonstration of our deep respect and appreciation for Kabiyesi’s transformational leadership over the past twenty years,” Chief Akinwale stated.

He noted that the reign of Oba Gbadebo has brought peace, unity, and remarkable infrastructural and socioeconomic growth to Egbaland, hence the decision of the Egba General Title Chiefs to honour him in a unique and lasting way.

The civic reception is expected to draw dignitaries, cultural groups, and well-wishers from across the country as Egbaland celebrates two decades of the Alake’s reign marked by stability, development, and renewed cultural pride.
