The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai gave the advice made while declaring open a two-week orientation programme for newly recruited Information and Public Relations Officers held at the Ministry’s conference room in Ovom, Yenagoa.

Mrs Koku-Obiyai said that the exercise was designed to acquaint the new officers with the mandate, structure, and operational procedures of the Ministry.

The commissioner said that such knowledge is essential for effective performance in their respective postings as the orientation would enhance their capacity for effective public communication.

She emphasised that the ministry was out to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice by ensuring a two week comprehensive orientation exercise.

The Commissioner charged the participants to take the sessions seriously, noting that their roles are central to promoting the policies and programmes of the state government in line with the prosperity administration.

The Commissioner said information and Public relations officers serve as the voice and image builders of government institutions and must therefore demonstrate professionalism, accuracy, and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties.

Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ifiemeya Anthony Borisei, reminded the officers that they would eventually be deployed to various ministries and agencies, hence the need to be well grounded in the operations of the parent ministry.

Mr. Borisei emphasized that staff must work deliberately to fulfill their mandate, earn their confirmation and promotions through diligence and hard work.

The Permanent Secretary, while commending the Commissioner for her commitment to staff development, said the orientation exercise would help strengthen the Ministry’s information and communication machinery.

Directors of the Ministry further made presentations on the mandates and functions of the seven departments under the Ministry
