The family made this known in a communiqué signed by Omooba AbdulLateef Ademola Abimbola and Omooba (Dr.) Nurudeen Adewale Abimbola, on behalf of the Oshinuga Oshiyokun lineage.

According to the Communique, the family made clarifications surrounding the circumstances within the ruling houses, and narratives of the fifth columnists regarding the Awujale stool.

“The Abimbola/Aderibigbe family wish to clarify some distorted facts which have been misconstrued as correct due to passage of time, circumstances within the Ruling Houses and the deliberate narratives of fifth columnists.

“From recorded and published history of the past ljebu Obas in the public domain, it was established that Awujale Fusengbuwa that reigned from 1790 to 1820 had the under listed children tree; Olufadi, Adesumbo, Okuyandewo, Shenowo, Oshinuga, Adekenu, Adebiyi and Adeberu.

The Abimbola/Aderibigbe family, also established the fact of being part of the paternal lineage to the Awujale Fusengbuwa royal house, which is against the circumstances within the ruling houses.

“Hence, the Abimbola/Aderibigbe family have established their paternal lineage to the Awujale Fusengbuwa (1790 – 1820) as our direct descent chain through Omooba Oshinuga.

“With this information, the family name “ABIMBOLA” has established their link to the stool of AWUJALE of ljebu Land.

“Referencing the Awujale Fusengbuwa (1790 – 1820) family tree, it is important to note that “Adesumbo” on the children family tree later became the 46th Awujale enthroned between (1886 – 1895) as Alaiyeluwa Oba Adesumbo Banjo Tunwase (Aboki) from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. The coinage “Tunwase” also has a unique story behind it that has to do with the Obaship Regalia.

“It is noteworthy that the 52nd Awujale, Alaiyeluwa Oba Adenuga Folagbade (1925-1929) was one of the children of Oba Adesumbo Banjo Tunwase (Aboki)”, It stated.

The Abimbola/Aderibigbe family, while pointing to the decision of presenting the next candidate for the Awujale stool, stated, “It is important to point out that the choice of “Abimbola” family to present the next candidate to the stool of Awujale of ljebu Land from the Oshinuga – Oshiyokun lineage was not done in error or oversight by the Ogun State Government, but in the spirit of equity and fair play amongst the children of Fusengbuwa”

It added, “Cognizance of these facts, we hereby wish to put our claim forward to present a candidate from Abimbola family since we have qualified, illustrious sons who are worthy of the stool of the Awujale of ljebu Land because it is unambiguously clear that it is the turn of Abimbola/Aderibigbe family to produce a candidate for the stool of the Awujale of ljebu Land.

“We are honourable family brought up with humility, dignity and we respect all classes of people irrespective of their social status. We always embrace anything ljebu and have the love of fellow ljebus at heart; always standing to defend and offer hands of fellowship to fellow ljebus in general.

“Our seemingly perceive delay in putting forward our firm and clear stand concerning the Awujale stool is out of respect to observe the three months mourning period for our Kabiyesi, Alaiyeluwa Oba S. K. Adetona, who joined his ancestors on the 13th July, 2025 and mourning ends on the 12th October, 2025. Hence our timing”.

The family, however stated that they are very convinced that the royal ruling houses family elders are aware of the position and do not have any doubt towards verifying those facts.

COMMUNIQUE RELEASED BY
ABIMBOLA/ADERIBIGBE FAMILY OF FUSENGBUWA RULING HOUSE

The Abimbola /Aderibigbe family of FUSENGBUWA Ruling House (Oshinuga-Oshiyokun Lineage) hereby wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Prince Adedapo Adesegun Abiodun, MFR, the Executive Chairman, ljebu Ode Local Government, Hon.Dare Alebiosu and the Ogun State Government on the transition of our Paramount Ruler, Awujale of ljebu Land, Alaiyeluwa Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona (Ogbagba II) on the 13th July, 2025

Our condolences also extend to all our ljebu Obas, ljebu Council of Traditional Rulers,Otunbas, Chiefs, Olori-Ebis of all Royal families, Committee of Elders, Sons and Daughters of ljebu at home and Abroad.

May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his short comings and grant him Aljanah, Aamiin.

The Abimbola/Aderibigbe family wish to clarify some distorted facts which have been misconstrued as correct due to passage of time, circumstances within the Ruling Houses and the deliberate narratives of fifth columnists.

From the recorded and published history of the past ljebu Obas in the public domain, it was established that AWUJALE FUSENGBUWA that reigned from 1790 to 1820 had the under listed children tree:

1. OLUFADI 2. ADESUMBO 3. OKUYANDEWO
4. SHENOWO 5. OSHINUGA 6. ADEKENU
7. ADEBIYI and 8. ADEBERU

With reference to Omooba OSHINUGA (full name Omooba OSHINUGA ABIMBOLA),he was the father of Omooba Oshiyokun ABIMBOLA. Omooba Oshiyokun ABIMBOLA had the following children’s family lineage:

a) Omooba Humuani Odunuga (Nee ABIMBOLA
b) Omooba Kasumu Araba ABIMBOLA
c) Omooba Saliu Oshiyemi Olowookere ABIMBOLA
d) Omooba Aderibigbe ABIMBOLA
e) Omooba Ajumoh ABIMBOLA and other siblings.
Hence, the Abimbola/Aderibigbe family have established their paternal lineage to the AWUJALE FUSENGBUWA (1790 – 1820) as our direct descent chain through Omooba OSHINUGA.

With this information, the family name “ABIMBOLA” has established their link to the stool of AWUJALE of ljebu Land.

Referencing the Awujale Fusengbuwa (1790 – 1820) family tree, it is important to note that “Adesumbo” on the children family tree later became the 46th Awujale enthroned between (1886 – 1895) as Alaiyeluwa Oba Adesumbo Banjo Tunwase (Aboki) from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. The coinage “Tunwase” also has a unique story behind it that has to do with the Obaship Regalia.

It is noteworthy that the 52nd Awujale,Alaiyeluwa Oba Adenuga Folagbade (1925-1929) was one of the children of Oba Adesumbo Banjo Tunwase (Aboki).

However, on the 23rd November, 1981 when the 55th Awujale, Alaiyeluwa Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona (1960 – 2025), was suspended from the Awujale stool through a proclamation issued by the then Government of Ogun State, Governed by His Excellency, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, a Commission of Enquiry was established headed by the Hon. Justice Sir Solomon Osobukola Sogbetun, OFR, to investigate Oba S.K. Adetona’s perceived insubordination and administrative misconduct in December, 1982, a white paper was issued by the Ogun State Government over the report of the Commission of Enquiry affirming the suspension and then deposition of Kabiyesi.

In January, 1983, the Ogun State Government in its wisdom, sent an official letter through the ljebu Ode Local Government to the Abimbola family, lle-Nla, Agunsebi Quarters, ljebu Ode to start the process of presenting the next candidate for the stool of the Awujale of ljebu Land.

It is important to point out that the choice of “ABIMBOLA” family to present the next candidate to the stool of Awujale of ljebu Land from the OSHINUGA – OSHIYOKUN lineage was not done in error or oversight by the Ogun State Government, but in the spirit of equity and fair play amongst the children of FUSENGBUWA.

Based upon the letter from the Ogun State Government, the “ABIMBOLA” family then set up a committee to do the processing of presenting a verified candidate for the stool of Awujale. This process took place at 8, lle-Nla House, Agunsebi Quarters, ljebu Ode, Ogun State and chaired by one of the head of the family, Omooba Thomas Odunuga.

At the conclusion of the process, three Princes emerged and contested for the stool amongst the Princes that were considered. They are

i) Late Omooba Kadmus Aderibigbe (ABIMBOLA)
ii) Late Omooba AbdulMojeed Adewale ABIMBOLA and
iii) Late Omooba Salaudeen Olaseni ABIMBOLA

The facts established from this process were that the candidates were qualified and recognized Royal Descendants of FUSENGBUWA Ruling House, there were no protests, petitions, contrary opinions against their selection. There were also no petitions, protests or contrary arguments against the letter written by the Ogun State Government to the “ABIMBOLA” family, Agunsebi Quarters by any other branch of FUSENGBUWA Ruling House.

Consequent upon the deposition order by the Government, a court action was instituted by the Awujale, Oba S.K. Adetona, challenging the white paper in court which was assigned to Hon. Justice Owolabi Kolawole of the Ogun State High Court.

However,on the 31st December, 1983, while the case was going on, a military coup-de-tat occurred that brought Late Major-General Muhammadu Buhari and Late Brigadier-General Tunde Idiagbon to power at the Federal level and Late Colonel Oladipo Diya as the Military Governor of Ogun State.Thereafter, on Friday, May 4, 1984, Hon. Justice Owolabi Kolawole delivered his judgment on the court case declaring that the deposition was null and void due to the hastiness to depose Kabiyesi by the Government, paving the way for Oba S.K.Adetona to be reinstated.

Hence, the advanced process of presenting a candidate for the Awujale stool already done by the ABIMBOLA family was placed on hold.

Cognizance of these facts, we hereby wish to put our claim forward to present a candidate from ABIMBOLA family since we have qualified, illustrious sons who are worthy of the stool of the Awujale of ljebu Land because it is unambiguously clear that it is the turn of Abimbola/Aderibigbe family to produce a candidate for the stool of the Awujale of ljebu Land.

We are honourable family brought up with humility, dignity and we respect all classes of people irrespective of their social status. We always embrace anything ljebu and have the love of fellow ljebus at heart; always standing to defend and offer hands of fellowship to fellow ljebus in general.

Our seemingly perceive delay in putting forward our firm and clear stand concerning the Awujale stool is out of respect to observe the three months mourning period for our Kabiyesi,Alaiyeluwa Oba S. K. Adetona, who joined his ancestors on the 13th July,2025 and mourning ends on the 12th October, 2025. Hence our timing.

May Almighty Allah (SWT) grant him Aljanah Fridaus, Aamiin.

We are very confident and completely convinced that the Royal Ruling House family elders are well aware of this position and we do not have any iota of doubt in their ability to verify these facts from the record archives and re-establish the withheld process as claimed above.

Long live ljebu Kingdom, long live Ogun State.
