The Confederation of African Football has unveiled the nominees for the 2025 CAF Awards, recognising outstanding contributions to women’s football across the continent. The shortlist spans 10 categories, including player, goalkeeper, coach, and team honours. Nigeria features prominently among the nominees, with multiple representatives recognised for their achievements throughout the year.
Two Super Falcons players, Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo, have earned positions on the African Player of the Year ballot alongside nine other competitors. The category includes defending holder, Barbara Banda, and several other notable performers from across the continent. The women’s player award remains one of the most prestigious individual honours in African football.
Nigeria’s coaching representation also gained recognition, with Super Falcons coach, Justine Madugu, and Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookere, nominated for Coach of the Year. Madugu is considered a leading contender following Nigeria’s record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations championship victory in Morocco. Both coaches will compete against an accomplished field, including South Africa’s Desiree Ellis and several other continental coaching talents.
The national team categories feature substantial Nigerian involvement, with both the Super Falcons and Flamingos included in the Women’s National Team of the Year shortlist. Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie appears among the Goalkeeper of the Year nominees. The ceremony will take place in Morocco, maintaining the host nation for the third consecutive year.
The complete awards programme encompasses multiple categories recognising individual, team, and managerial excellence. Voting and final selections will determine winners across all divisions. All of these nominations show the significant role Nigerian football continues to play in African women’s sports development.
