The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of six suspects in connection with the deadly attack on its Tactical Teams at Agu Centre, located along the Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area axis of Benue State.

According to a statement by Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer
Force Headquarters, Abuja on Sunday, the attack, carried out on Friday, September 19, 2025, by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias, left three officers dead and seven others missing.

It noted that Innocent Emenari, Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, is currently leading a major response operation aimed at rescuing the missing officers and tracking down the perpetrators of the assault.

Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) , condemned the incident in strong terms, describing it as a “cruel and unwarranted affront” on the Nigerian Police Force and the people of Benue State.

He assured that the Force would not relent until the fleeing suspects are apprehended and justice is served.

“The attack is not only an attack on our personnel but also on the peace and stability of Benue State. We will ensure that every suspect connected to this cowardly act is brought to book,” Egbetokun said.

According to the Police, the six arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are reportedly providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

“To strengthen the manhunt, the IGP has ordered the deployment of additional tactical assets to the state, vowing that no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in the troubled communities”, it added.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has appealed to residents of Benue State to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies as operations continue.

It emphasized that intensified search-and-rescue missions are underway to locate the missing officers, while efforts to dismantle the criminal networks behind such violent attacks are being escalated.

The Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that the latest reinforcements reflect the seriousness with which the Force is tackling violent crime in Benue and other flashpoints across the country.
