Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, has arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

The governor’s aircraft touched down at about 11:55am on Friday.

Supporters of the governor were on the ground to welcome him.

Fubara had yet to resume from his government house office hours after President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule imposed on the state.

On Thursday, the Rivers house of assembly reconvened, with hundreds of Fubara’s supporters who had besieged the government house in anticipation of his resumption, waiting in vain.

Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, had been serving a suspension since Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state on March 18 over a festering political crisis.

Tinubu swore in Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired admiral, as sole administrator to oversee the state during the emergency rule.

In a state broadcast on Wednesday, Ibas handed over power and urged political actors in Rivers to embrace dialogue and mutual respect.

The political crisis in the state stemmed from a fallout between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), over the control of Rivers’ political structure.

The feud split members of the Rivers assembly and escalated into violent confrontations.

In June, Tinubu held a reconciliation meeting with Fubara, Wike, Martin Amaewhule, and other stakeholders.

In July, Ibas inaugurated the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) led by Michael Odey.

The commission conducted local government elections across 23 councils on August 30.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won 20 councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory in three.
