A woman in her 40s has died after being struck by a falling tree branch on Barlow Moor Road in West Didsbury, Manchester, United Kingdom. The incident occurred on Saturday evening around 7.15pm
Emergency services responded quickly, but despite the efforts of paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the tragedy, stating that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A staff member at a nearby petrol station, who witnessed the moment, said the tree “just snapped” before the branch fell on the victim. “The weather was a bit windy but not strong. A few locals came out and some of them were doctors so they were trying to help her. Then the ambulance came and police closed the road,” the witness said.
The branch, described as “massive,” blocked off the road, with multiple large limbs falling at once. Residents expressed shock at the sudden accident. Mark Jones, returning from Didsbury Pride, said: “The road was cordoned off by police and we weren’t sure what was going on, then we saw they had put white screens up, so sadly we knew that someone had died. It was breezy and there was a bit of rain but nothing heavy. It’s an awful thing to have happened.”
