It was further learnt that immediately the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered, security personnel were contacted and people were prevented from entering the room.

“The body was still hanging when they arrived, but people were scared to enter the room where the body was because of fear.

The NSCDC operatives who came interviewed the wife of the deceased. Police also sent operatives, and the body was later brought down. The deceased was an auto mechanic. The incident led to serious panic in the community.” a source told Punch

The Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Osun Command, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident on Friday.

“On Thursday at around 9:27 am, information reached our office in Ilare Division that one Olajide Tope, popularly known as MECO, living in Otan-Ile, committed su!cide,” he stated.

“Information gathered from people living close to the deceased indicates that he had a misunderstanding with his wife on Wednesday night.

People insinuated suicide; should that be taken to be true, what led to it is still hidden.”

In the Command’s admonition for the residents, Adeleke said the Osun NSCDC State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, urged individuals facing emotional trauma to reach out to the Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit of the Corps for assistance.

“The unit has successfully mediated and resolved numerous cases, offering support and guidance to those in distress.

No one should ever feel compelled to take his or her own life; every life is valuable and irreplaceable,” he added.

In another development, A 50-year-old man identified as Odomma has committed su!cide in the Amakpu Okuku community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State over financial difficulties that left him unable to fend for himself and his family.

Residents of the community found his body dangling in an uncompleted building near his residence on Friday, August 22.

According to villagers, Odomma had threatened to commit su!cide about three months ago, complaining that his wife and children had allegedly stopped giving him food because he could no longer provide for the family.

A community member, who simply identified as Ikenna, told Punch that the deceased had shared his frustrations with a few friends.

“He said if the situation continued, he would take his life to end the misery. We advised him to report the matter to the village head for settlement. Sadly, he chose this path. Just see how this man ended his life because of money. He could have sold his GP tank or generator to get food, but he decided to take his life. Now others will gather to eat and he won’t be part of it,” Ikenna said.

Odomma, who was widely patronised in the community for water sales priced from ₦100 upwards, was described as hardworking but visibly depressed in recent months
