The Chairman of Her Eminence , (Dr.) Mrs. Amaba Sam-Ogbuku Media Directorate, Chief Owei Aleibharola Potency , (JP) has on behalf of his Principal Dr. (Mrs) Amaba Sam-Ogbuku congratulated the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku for nominating Diamond For Women Initiative to organize the 2025 International Youth Day Celebration in the Niger Delta, particularly in Bayelsa State with the theme” Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology and Partnership on Friday, 15th August, 2025 at Matho Crystal Hotel, plot 45 Imiringi Road, off Tombia road, Yenagoa.
He gave the commendation while speaking to Salient Times News as a participant at the venue.
Chief Owei Aleibharola Potency, a notable leader from Anyama-Ogbia, who has been advocating for equal rights and justice in the Niger Delta and a renowned philanthropist who has won the heart of the people at the grassroots in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta in general for lifting the downtrodden from the doldrums stated that youths occupy an integral part in the society and thanked the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for partnering with the Diamond For Women Initiative to organize the training programme for the Youths especially the quality of resource persons that presented papers which he noted have broaden the horizon of youths in Bayelsa State.
He advised the beneficiaries of the training to make good use of the knowledge acquired to develop themselves to become self reliant and employers of labour.
He noted that the current NDDC Boss, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku has exhibited great leadership qualities and carved a niche as an exceptional Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NDDC since the establishment of the interventionist agency.
Chief Owei Aleibharola Potency, a man of proven integrity, very benevolent and have become a household name in Anyama Ogbia in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta thanked the NDDC MD/CEO for his numerous youth empowerment programmes that have given the youths a sense of belonging while urging them to support the NDDC Boss to unveil more skills acquisition programmes to build their capacity.
Earlier, the representative of Diamond For Women Initiative, Mrs.Tonye Omoni in her opening remarks while declaring the 2025 International Youth Day Celebration open at Matho Crystal Hotel in Yenagoa said the resource persons assembled to deliver lectures will impart valuable knowledge to participants to have full value for their time adding that the training is part of activities to celebrate the International Youth Day will be a time well spent to take home valuable knowledge that will change their status as entrepreneurs.
She thanked the MD/CEO of the NDDC, Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku and the Board of Directors for appointing Diamond For Women Initiative to organize the training.
Dr. Ebikewenimo Bennett, Registrar Family Heath Niger Delta University presented Health Talk on basic things to know about hypertension and listed the risk factors of high blood pressure to include stress, alcoholic, intake, hard drugs, eating of excessive red meat, salt among others.
In his word of advice, the Paramount Ruler of Okaka, His Royal Highness, Dr. Etelemo Morris Odede, Obigbo Ketekete who doubles as Secretary General Epie Kingdom Council of Chiefs, also a lecturer at Niger Delta University Amassoma advised youths to imbibe godly virtues avoid, cultism, ritual killings and be positive towards life
The Acting Head of Department Political Science, Federal University Otuoke, Dr. John Kalama in his presentation on Collaborative Efforts As A Stimulus For Youth Advancement In Multilateral Cooperative Through Technical Innovation And Partnerships For Socio-Economic Development In The Niger Delta” hinted that the region is rich in Natural Resources but still face marginalization, underdevelopment and poverty adding that youth inclusive governance, collaborative efforts and partnership will increase capacity building through education and skills acquisition.
He advised the NDDC Management to keep a data base of those trained, investors attracted, evaluation of tools and the impact of the training on the youths
Dr. John Kalama recommended gainful engagement of youths in the region to reduce unemployment and restiveness.
Professor Bina Odogu, Dean Faculty of Arts, Niger Delta University Amassoma, represented by Areprekumo presented paper on “Conducive Environment, Skills Acquisition And Utilization Of Indigenous Technology For Socio-Economic Enhancement In The Niger Delta” said indigenous technology was disrupted by slave trade and colonialism such as boat building among city states like Nembe, Bonny and local gin distilling which he stated the Europeans copied and improved upon.
He said indigenous technology is intertwined with cultural practices.
Dr. Mrs.Charitoo-Spiff Inekiengha Mercy from the Department of Primary Education and Early Childhood Care, Faculty of Education, Isaac Jasper Boro College of Education, Sagbama in her presentation on “Youth Initiative And Expectations At Acquisition Of Technologies, Skills For The Development Of The Niger Delta charged youths to take advantage of all the trainings they have acquired, take responsibility, place value and price tag for themselves, and break new frontiers to become successful.
Mrs. Walama Itekesi representing the Bayelsa State NDDC Director, Engr. Godknows Salo Alamieyeseigha gave the vote of thanks and urged youths not to give up but start from the little at their disposal to move ahead
