Elder Statesman and philanthropist, Otunba Lana Akintan, today commissioned the permanent office of the  Otunba Lana Akintan Human Rights Foundation as the highlight of his low-key 96th birthday celebration – a landmark initiative dedicated to protecting the rights of the oppressed.

The commissioning, held in Oja-Odan, Yewa North LGA of Ogun State on Monday, 18th August, 2025, was not only a celebration of his long and impactful life but also a demonstration of his lifelong commitment to justice, equity, and human dignity.

In his remark, Otunba Akintan emphasized that the Foundation was his way of leaving behind a lasting legacy that would continue to defend the marginalized long after him.

“I have spent my life defending human rights, and at 96, my desire is to see this work live on through the Foundation. I implore the Board of Trustees led by Mr Abiodun Ogundipe to use every resource at their disposal to defend the oppressed and give voice to the voiceless. Our people can rest assured that this Foundation will stand as their defender,” he said.

Family members, friends, and well-wishers described the commissioning as a historic milestone that would serve as a beacon of hope for generations to come.

Speaking with newsmen, the BoT Chairman, Mr Ogundipe assured the President and Founder, Otunba Lana Akintan of his Board’s readiness and willingness to deliver on the mandate, saying “the people of Yewa North and environs will certainly begin to feel the impact of OLAKHUF in no time”.

With this new office, the Otunba Lana Akintan Human Rights Foundation is set to expand its reach, advocating for justice and providing support for those who suffer abuse or neglect in society.
