Residents protest as gunmen kill one and abduct another in Ondo community

Gunmen have k!lled a man and abducted a woman in Ayede Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, resulted in the death of 34-year old Okudili Okoro, who was shot at the scene.

The assailants, said to be about ten in number, also took away one Mrs. Orogun.

Witnesses said the attackers came in two unregistered vehicles, a silver-coloured EOD car, which drove towards Akure after the attack, and a grey Toyota Camry, which went in the Owo direction.

The incident triggered angry residents to block a highway in protest, stalling vehicular movement.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, confirmed the incident and said he had directed all tactical commanders to deploy resources to secure the release of the victim and apprehend the culprits.

Lawal, who visited the scene on Friday morning, urged residents to assist the police with useful information to aid the investigation.
