As battle for the August 16 by-election in Edo State intensified yesterday as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially flagged off its campaign in Edo Central Senatorial District, pledging to win convincingly at the polls.

At the campaign launch in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North-East Local Government Area, the PDP declared its readiness to take its message to every community across the five local government areas in the district. The by-election will also be held in Ovia Federal Constituency.

Addressing the crowd, the party’s 2024 governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, said it was Uromi’s turn to produce the next Senator. He urged voters to rally behind the PDP candidate, Prince Joe Okojie, and reject the opposition at the polls.

“Since 2023, Edo Central has lacked adequate representation in the Senate. Esan land is known for intellect, capability, and strength—we must not allow the world to think otherwise,” Ighodalo said. “We must get the best person to represent us. The time has come for us to show that we will not repeat past mistakes. Take their money if they offer, but vote for what is right.”

Director-General of the PDP Campaign Council, Hon. Joe Edionwe, warned that Esanland would suffer if the opposition candidate was elected. In his remarks, Okojie expressed confidence in his victory, pledging quality representation if elected.

The rally was attended by several PDP leaders, including Senator Clifford Ordia, Anthony Okosun, Akhere Ugbesia, Senator Odion Ugbesia, and Hon. Joe Edionwe, among others.
