Renowned professor of Computer Science and Cyber Security, Prof. Saidat Adebukola Onashoga has made her formal entry into the contest for the position of National President, Nigeria Computer Society(NCS) billed to hold in Kano from 11th to 14th August, 2025.

A Jewel in the race, Prof Onashoga hopes to make history as the first female President of the professional body which was established almost 47 years ago.

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) is the umbrella and premier body of all Computing and Information Technology(IT) professionals, interest groups, and stakeholders in Nigeria.

Prof. Onashoga, a Fellow of Nigeria Computer Society and Council Member, Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria(CPN) as well as the NCS, is a frontline officer of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta(FUNAAB).

At FUNAAB, she is a one-time Head of Department, Computer Science with research interests in the areas of data mining, Cybersecurity, Algorithm Engineering and Information Security.

For the energetic female aspirant, the ongoing contest won’t be the first acid test of her leadership within the Society.

According to available information, Prof Onashoga has been well entrenched in the politics of the professional body as she had been previously elected a past Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter after which she emerged South West Zonal Coordinator and presently Chairperson of the Conferences Committee.

She spoke to newsmen during an interview where she unfolded her vision for the Society.

Prof Onashoga said: “My vision for the Nigeria Computer Society is that of Innovation, Inclusivity, Transparency, Accountability and Technological Advancement.

“As President of this prestigious body, I will harness the power of innovation in driving the growth of information technology in Nigeria and across Nigeria.

“Everybody and all registered members must be partakers of this vision. I respectfully urge all members of the Society to come along in this journey to make NCS great”.

Prof Onashoga has her pedigree well oiled for the task ahead.

Buoyed by a flurry of awards and recognitions, Saidat Adebukola Onashoga won the 2025 Leadership Award IWT, IT Woman of the year 2017, a national award by Nigerian Women in IT(NIWIIT), Finalist, 2020 Technology Playmaker Awards(Academic Achievement Category) and several others.

As per affiliations, she is a professional member, Association for Computing Machinery(ACM) and also Member, Informing Science Institute(ISI), USA.
