A House of Representative, representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency, Comrade Chinedu Ogah has on Tuesday assured people of the south east region that the aged yelling for additional state in the zone would see the light of the day under president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led administration.

He clarified that the current agitation for state creation in the zone has been submitted to national Assembly and it is awaiting further reading. He noted that it is constitutional right ,owing to the fact that the region has suffered years of neglect and marginalization.

Ogah made known on Tuesday while addressing Journalists in his Residence in Abakaliki the State Capital on Tuesday on the ongoing constitutional review at the national Assembly.

He explained that it would help in addressing issue of state equality in the country, insisting that the region has the economic power, manpower and the landmark.

“Lawmakers from Southeast proposed one State in this part of Enugu Ebonyi, Anambra, that is Adada State. While Imo and Abia proposed for one state, making it two. And that is one of the submissions both Senate and House of Representatives in the Southeast.

“And we have passed first reading, second reading and to the public hearing. After that now we do the complain of the committee and present the report before the National Assembly. And it will pass to third reading”

“So when we pass to the third reading, it will be now concurred by Senate and transmitted to the president for assent. And this time around it will come to fulfillment because it is a constitutional thing.

“And we all know that the Southeast is marginalized. Each of other political zones, has six States and some have seven states.

“It is constitutional right for the South east to have an additional States.We have the landmarks, we have the economic power, we have the manpower and we have what it takes to have an additional two States”, he added.

Ogah is also a member of the Constitutional Review Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Public Hearing. Zone ‘A’.
