Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun CON, FCA, has commiserated with the Olakunlehin royal family, the Ibadan Traditional Institution, the government of Oyo State, and the entire people of Ibadanland, as His Royal Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakunlehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday, 7 July, 2025.
Senator Amosun described the passing of Oba Olakunlehin as sudden, especially coming barely two days after he celebrated his 90th birthday and 1st coronation anniversary on Saturday, 5 July, 2025.
As the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Olakunlehin will be remembered for the profound legacy he left behind within just one year of his reign. He was an advocate of peace and unity, who led with purpose and a deep sense of responsibility to his people.
Prior to his coronation as the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olakunlehin had made his mark as a teacher, shaping the lives of young Nigerians; as a military officer, contributing to national security; and as a politician, where he served with distinction as a Member of the House of Representatives for Ibadan South East Constituency in 1992. His life of service was defined by commitment to national development and common good for all.
Senator Amosun prays that Almighty God will grant the late monarch eternal rest, and give his family, the Ibadan Traditional Institution, and the entire people of Ibadanland, the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
