Ogun: Egba Traditional Council Suspends Olu Obafe Indefinitely
..Appoints Chief Olufemi Folarin, Four Others As Regency Council

The Egba Traditional Council has suspended the embattled Olu of Obafe, in Obafemi Owode Local Government area of Ogun State, Oba Taofeek Owolabi indefinitely.

His indefinite suspension according to a letter addressed to the monarch and dated 17th of June, 2025, was due to the monarch’s ongoing court proceeding.

According to the memo which was signed by Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, and titled ‘Indefinite Suspension’, said, “On 13th December, 2024 Egba Traditional Council suspended you in line with section 36 (1) and (2) of Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021 for land grabbing activity in Agboro Olatunde Community of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area for which you were charged to Court by Ogun State Government.

“In view of the ongoing Court proceedings, your suspension is hereby extended indefinitely from 13th June 2025 till the end of the court case against you”.

Meanwhile, the Egba Traditional Council has appointed a five man Regency Council to oversee the affairs of the Town.

The five man Regency Council has Chief Oluwafemi Folarin, the Odofin of Ijeun as the Chairman.

Other members of the Council are Chief Afolabi Michael Fasanu (SAN) – Lisa Ijeun, Chief Micheal Sokenu – Sakosi Ijeun, Chief Sunday Oduntan – Baamofin of Ijeun, and Chief (Mrs.) Victoria Adunni Adeboye – Olori Erelu Ijeun.

Their appointment which follows recommendations from the Oluwo of Ijeun, Chief Edmund Adeboye, Chief Akanbi Usman, the Balogun Ijeun, Chief Simeon Ogunwale, the Baase of Ijeun and Dr Chief Fatai Badru, the Jagunna of Ijeun; and the approval by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Egba Traditional Council through its President, Alake of Egbaland announced the high Chiefs from Ijeun section of Egbaland as the members of the regency council.

The memo stated that the appointees “possesses the wisdom, integrity and leadership skills necessary to serve our township with distinction

It could be recalled that Oba Owolabi, a coronet Oba and a member of the Egba Traditional Council, was arraigned and was placed on temporary suspension from 13th December , 2024, before the Egba Traditional Council extended it indefinitely.

All efforts by Our Correspondent to get the reactions of the embattled monarch proved abortive as calls put across to him were said to be switched off.
