From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki
The Governor of Ebonyi state, Rt. Hon.Francis Nwifuru yesterday asked the people of the state, essentially affected families who had their beloved ones gruesomely murdered in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra state to remain calm.
Nwifuru who also commiserated with the affected families assured them that justice must prevail.
Not less than 10 defenseless indigenes of Ebonyi state were killed in Orumba South local government area of Anambra state while holding a meeting in the area on Monday.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday and was made available to journalists in Abakiliki through the Chief Press Secretary to Ebonyi state governor, Dr. Monday Uzor.
According to the statement, “such barbarism has no place in modernity and state arsenals will be deployed to unmask the perpetrator of the bloody killings.
“It defiles reason and logic that a group of people of Ebonyi people holding meeting in a peaceful manner will be shot in a close range.
“It is unacceptable and I strongly frown at such heinous act in it’s entirely, however, I’m asking the state including the affected families to remain calm and shun any form of reprisal”,he said.
The governor further stressed that he has contacted his Anambra State counterpart, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo for a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation to unravel the motive behind the killings and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice, adding that the incident is “barbaric” and “a direct assault on peace, unity, and the sanctity of human life”.
He warned that failure or compromise in prosecuting the culprits could strain the existing cordial relationship between both states, while reaffirming Ebonyi State’s commitment to protecting its citizens everywhere.
