According to Salient Times, the picture, believed to have been taken at a public gathering, has triggered significant backlash from his family in Shagamu, Ogun State. The Mafe family has publicly expressed their disapproval, citing that such behavior is considered unacceptable both under Nigerian law and traditional Yoruba customs.
Chief Mafe, the head of the family, stated in a press interview that the family was deeply embarrassed by the photo, claiming that Olujide’s actions carry “traditional and spiritual implications” for the entire family. He mentioned that the family had previously distanced themselves from Olujide upon learning of his bisexual orientation and had assumed he had ceased such behavior. The recent photo, however, appears to confirm otherwise.
The family claims to have informed law enforcement agencies, expressing concerns over what they describe as a violation of cultural and societal norms. While no formal legal action has yet been taken, there are ongoing calls from community members for local authorities to investigate further.
Chief Mafe emphasized the family’s stance, stating that they do not support or condone same-sex relationships, which are criminalized in Nigeria under the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. He also reiterated that the family considers the matter a source of distress and maintains their position of disapproval.
The situation has raised fears for Olujide’s safety, as individuals perceived to be LGBTQ+ in Nigeria often face rejection, discrimination, and in some cases, threats of violence or arrest.
