Tinubu arrived at exactly 4:10 pm.

He was received by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat; the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and three other executive council members of the state.

The President was also received by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, and the Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Cornelius Ojelabi, among others.

The President is expected to attend the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Tinubu will, along with other leaders, celebrate the ECOWAS golden jubilee, which was flagged off in Accra, Ghana, in April.

According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, bayo Ononuga, and posted on X on Monday, the Lagos events will include reenacting the 1975 declaration at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Victoria Island.

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Touray, is expected to deliver the welcome address.

“At the Eko Hotels and Suites event, President Tinubu, the Chairman of ECOWAS, will highlight the economic bloc’s milestones. The Chairman of the NIIA and former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, will review the bloc’s 50-year journey, which panellists at the NIIA will later analyse.

“The only surviving Head of State who signed the ECOWAS declaration, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), will participate in all the ceremonies and deliver a speech at the Eko Hotels,” the statement read.

According to the statement, while in Lagos, Tinubu will, on Saturday, May 31, commission some projects of the administration.
