A gas explosion on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, caused pandemonium at the Alake Sports Complex, Ijeja, Abeokuta, one of the venues of the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival in the state.
Reports said that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a gas truck supplying the complex’s generator suddenly caught fire and went up in flames, resulting in panic among athletes and spectators.
They all scampered to safety to avoid being caught in the raging inferno.
Emergency responders however hurried to the scene of the incident and succeeded in putting the situation under control.
No one has been confirmed injured.
As of the time of filing this report, events have resumed at the venue. Handball, squash and badminton games were ongoing.
