A prominent son of the affected community, Haakyav Tombu Peter, in a viral video on his official Facebook page lamented that the assailants came in large numbers armed with automatic weapons under cover of darkness in the night.

He said the invaders went from house to house shooting and cutting down innocent people with matchetes.

The attack is said to have lasted for hours without security intervention coming to the aid of the helpless villagers.

Sources said bodies of six victims, among them children, has so far been recovered and their remains deposited at the Community Health Clinic at Adógó.

The deceased victims so far recovered have been identified as Ansambe Akpen, Shina Ayom Akpen, Bade Jam Ata, Shiekuma Kpebee and Sughter Avindigh Taku, with the identity of the sixth victim yet to be ascertained.

Efforts to confirm the incident from the Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command as of the time of this report was not successful as calls to her mobile telephone was not returned.
