Man commits suicide by detonating explosive on himself
A 25-year-old man from Kwekwe, Zimbabwe has died in a suspected suicide after reportedly blowing himself up with explosives, leaving behind only his teeth as identifiable remains. The tragic incident occurred on Independence Day and has since sparked a police investigation.
The deceased, identified as Talent Runi, was found dead in his rented room in the Mbizo suburb of Kwekwe. According to Midlands Deputy Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Fungai Ngawagare, the Zimbabwe Republic Police are actively investigating the matter. “The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms investigating a suspected suicide case in which a 25-year-old Mbizo man was found dead in his room with his teeth blown out and blood stains all over,” Ngawagare said in a statement to The Mirror.
Police officers responding to the scene reported that the room was covered in blood, with only Runi’s teeth recovered from the apparent blast. No other identifiable body parts were found, pointing to the intensity of the explosion.
Details emerged that Runi had recently arrived in Kwekwe from Gokwe with his cousin, Tinotenda Tsvangira. The two parted ways after arriving in town, but later that day, Tsvangira received a troubling phone call from their aunt, who informed him that Runi was allegedly contemplating suicide. Alarmed, Tsvangira rushed to Runi’s residence but found the doors locked. He entered through a window and discovered the grisly scene, Runi’s remains and blood splattered across the room.
Authorities say several items were found at the scene, including both used and unused explosives, igniting cords, and a box of matches. These discoveries suggest that the explosives played a direct role in the suspected suicide.
