Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has commiserated with the Oyagbola family on the passing of Chief Mrs. Adenike Ebun Oyagbola, the first female cabinet Minister in Nigeria.

Chief Oyagbola, an illustrious daughter of Igan-Alade in Yewa North Local Government of Ogun State, died on Friday, 28 February, 2025. She was aged 94.

While condoling with the Oyagbola family, Senator Amosun noted that throughout her distinguished career, Chief Mrs. Oyagbola embodied selfless service, hard work, and determination.

“As a renowned educationist, she defied several odds and barriers, paving the way for her towering achievements in her service to our dear nation.

“As Minister of National Planning from 1979 to 1983 during the administration of Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Chief Oyagbola played a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s development trajectory.

“Her diplomatic stint as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, and Guatemala exemplified her expertise in bilateral diplomacy and international relations.

“A beacon of inspiration to the womenfolk and indeed the society at large, Chief Mrs. Oyagbola’s commitment to gender equality, women empowerment, and participation in politics remains her enduring legacy.

Amosun said the remarkable life of Chief Ebun Oyagbola, the Iyalode of Yewaland, will continue to inspire and motivate the present generation and those to come.

The former Governor prayed that the Almighty God will grant her eternal rest and give the entire Oyagbola family the fortitude to bear her irreparable loss.
