The incident it was gathered reportedly happened at no 50 Upper Mission extension, Benin City.

It was further gathered that the suspect inflicted matchet cuts on his wife’s head over alleged misunderstanding, leading to her death.

The deceased was said to have been killed last Friday, with her remains locked up in the House.

It was reliably gathered that the bubble burst the following morning when the husband of the deceased tried to quietly evacuate the remains of the victim, who is said to be three months pregnant.

Neighbours who noticed the strange behaviour of the killer husband raised alarm when they found the lifeless body of Success, soaked in her blood in the room. Kelvin was quickly held before the arrival of policemen from Aduwawa Police station.

A neighbour, who spoke to Salient Times on condition of anonymity confirmed our findings that since the coming
together of the young couple, it had been one problem or the other owing to the violent nature of the embattled husband.

His words: “Since they got married seven months ago, it’s been one problem or the other.

Sometime ago, Kelvin, a known violent person stabbed the deceased (Success) on the hand.

The woman was pregnant and a trader at Ramat Park area. Kelvin was always attacking her before he finally ended her life few days ago. It was a painful death”

However, the Edo Police spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, said, the police received information that the suspect was about to be lynched by an
irate mob over the killing of his wife.

He said the operatives of the Aduwawa Division swiftly mobilised to the scene and met the lifeless body of the woman lying in the pool of her own blood with deep cuts on her head.

Yamu said it took serious efforts by the police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation.

“The victim was removed and rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a doctor.

According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, Betty
Otimenyin, decried the recent cases of spouses being violent against each other.

He however assured the public of diligent investigation into the death of the woman and that whoever found culpable would be dealt with according to the law.
