Filmmaker Funke Akindele has clarified her stance on feminism, stating that while she believes in women’s empowerment, she does not condone disrespect towards husbands.
In a viral video on Friday, Akindele spoke while addressing skit maker Kamo State and his wife, rejecting the idea that women are the weaker sex. She described them as “strong and bold” and urged men to treat women with respect rather than confining them to traditional roles.
“I’m a feminist, but I do not support a woman disrespecting her husband. Do what is right,” she said. “We are not the weaker sex or vessel. Men should treat us specially and respect us. A woman is not just meant for the kitchen or to be spoken to anyhow.”
She also emphasized financial independence for women, encouraging them to secure their own economic power to support their families.
Akindele was married to music producer Abdulrasheed ‘JJC Skillz’ Bello in 2016, and they welcomed twin boys in 2018. However, in June 2022, JJC Skillz announced their separation, citing irreconcilable differences and stating that all efforts to resolve their issues had failed
