The Coalition for United Political Parties (CUPP) in Ogun State has announced its intention to take legal action against Governor Dapo Abiodun over what it describes as attempts to undermine the rights and welfare of civil servants in the state.
The state Chairman of the group, Femi Soluade, in a press statement issued on Monday, accused the governor of dehumanizing civil servants by dismantling the legacy of Chief Bisi Onabanjo, the first elected Governor of Ogun State, who is said,championed the cause of workers during the Second Republic.
Soluade in the statement, highlighted the Governor’s alleged efforts to strip civil servants of the rights to land and housing that were originally allocated to them during the administration of the Second Republic under Governor Onabanjo.
He claims that these lands, once reserved for workers’ settlements, were improperly annexed by the current government, depriving retired workers of the secure and abundant retirement life that they had earned through years of service to the state.
Soluade’s statement went on to criticize Governor Abiodun’s administration for making life harder for Ogun State’s civil servants, causing frustration and shortening their life expectancy.
The state chairman on behalf of the group, also accused the governor of refusing to reverse actions detrimental to workers’ welfare, further entrenching inequality and depriving civil servants of their well-deserved rights.
In addition to the allegations against the governor, Soluade, has also expressed concern over the lack of transparency in the allocation of land and building contracts in Ogun State.
He said the group has been calling for full disclosure of key information regarding land allocations, including the names and addresses of allottees, contractors, and evidence of due process in the allocation and construction of housing schemes.
He further demanded that the Ogun State Government publish the details of bidding processes, contracts, and the technical and financial capacities of contractors involved in housing projects.
To press its demands, CUPP’s legal team, Mojisola Chambers, has issued a final notice to the Ogun State Ministries of Housing, Works, Infrastructure, and Finance.
The legal notice a copy which was obtained by Our Correspondent specifically requests the disclosure of important documents related to several housing projects, including the GRA Regeneration Scheme in Abeokuta, the Idi-Aba Housing Scheme, and the Igbeba Housing Scheme in Ijebu-Ode.
These schemes are of particular concern to CUPP, which is seeking the names, particulars of allotees, and proof of payment for land allocations.
The notice references a prior communication sent to the Ogun State Government on January 13, 2025, requesting the information.
However, according to CUPP’s legal representatives, the statutory seven-day notice period for response has passed without any action from the relevant authorities.
Consequently, CUPP has stated that it will proceed to the Federal High Court to seek an order compelling the Ogun State Government and federal agencies involved to release the requested documents.
The group is determined to enforce compliance with the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.
In the statement, CUPP made it clear that the refusal to comply with their FOI request would leave them with no choice but to seek judicial intervention.
The group has vowed to take legal action to ensure transparency and accountability in Ogun State’s land and housing allocation processes, further stressing that the Governor’s continued inaction is forcing them into litigation.
