A fuel tanker caught fire while offloading fuel at Shakatu Filling Station along Kiyawa Road in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday night at about 8:30 pm, caused panic among residents and commuters in the area.

Eyewitnesses told Salient Times that the fire started suddenly, engulfing the tanker and spreading to parts of the filling station.

Police and other security agencies swiftly mounted a roadblock to control traffic and prevent people from approaching the area to avoid casualties.

Firefighters and other emergency officials were also deployed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The fire has yet to be extinguished as of the time of filing this report, and the extent of damage and possible casualties is unknown.

It could be recalled that months ago, a similar incident occurred in Majia town, Taura Local Government, Jigawa State, resulting in the death of over 100 people.

Spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident
