The Benue State Government in North Central Nigeria has commenced the distribution of essential items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) for the year 2025, reaffirming its dedication to supporting families impacted by armed conflict in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and State Emergency Management Agency, Sir. James Iorpuu flagged off the distribution at an event attended by key stakeholders, including officials from international Organisations.

Sir James Iorpuu, highlighted the unwavering commitment of Governor Hyacinth Alia to restore hope, dignity, and livelihoods to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Benue State.

He said recent initiatives such as the Benue State Action Plan for a Durable Solution for IDPs focus on providing immediate relief and establishing sustainable pathways for the safe return and empowerment of displaced populations.

He explained that a significant aspect of the state’s efforts is the launch of the IDPs farm project in six severely affected Local Government Areas, demonstrating Benue State’s dedication to addressing food security challenges and promoting economic recovery among IDPs.

He further informed that the project underscores the state’s commitment to resilience and sustainable development.

As the distribution of essential items progresses, attendees are encouraged to approach the process with compassion and purpose, ensuring the resources are utilized effectively.

The Permanent Secretary commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his visionary leadership, support and initiative just as he showered praises on
staff of the Emergency Management Agency as well as partners in supporting humanitarian endeavors.

He acknowledged collaboration with international and local partners as crucial in advancing humanitarian objectives, adding that together, the stakeholders aims to restore dignity and normalcy to displaced persons in Benue State.

Our Correspondent reports that a moment of reflection and prayers was held for SEMA Staff members who recently suffered an accident and are currently undergoing treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital.
