Former Besiktas goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu has warned Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen about a potential transfer to Manchester United this January.
Osimhen is reportedly a transfer target for Reuben Amorim’s side this winter transfer window as the Red Devils seek to reinforce their attack.
The Nigeria star who is on loan at Galatasaray has made a great start to life in Turkey with 13 goals in 16 games in all competitions.
His loan in Istanbul is expected to run out at the end of the season in June, with Napoli still yet to see a club match their €81 million asking price for a permanent transfer.
Shorunmu, in an exclusive interview with Rant Sports, shared the sentiment that a transfer to Manchester United or the Premier League would be risky with no guaranteed soft landing.
He believes it will take more than money to convince the 26-year-old who is enjoying regular playing time in Turkey and has the best support from Turkish fans.
“Well, it depends on him, you know, everything in this life is about risk,” Shorunmu told Rant Sports.
“And again, it is a matter of mindset if he is comfortable with the Man Utd project and his readiness to start a new life and adjust after just six months in Turkey.
“It also depends on the new coach at Manchester United if the coach loves him so much and will support him in adapting to life in England.
“It is a two-way thing about how he feels about playing in England and his mind to direct him.”
The 57-year-old former Nigeria goalkeeper who spent the majority of his European club career in Turkey reflected on the performances of his former teams.
Shorunmu played for Besiktas between 1999 and 2001, and he was also in the books of Samsunspor from 2002 to 2005.
Both teams have contrasting fortune in the 2024-25 season with Besiktas struggling for results and they are fifth in the Super Lig table, while Samsunspor are flying high and they are in third position behind Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
