Abeokuta Sports Club, one of the foremost sports Club in Africa is marking 120 year’s of its existence in the provision of stress – relief place for Chief Executives, Industrialists, the retired, young and old in the community.

The President of the Sports Club, Prince Seni Ogunyemi while addressing the Press on the activities lined up to celebrate the Sports Club, said Six eminent members of the Sports Club such as Chief Segun Odegbami would be honored during the celebration.

While highlighting programmes lined up for the week long activities, Prince Seni Ogunyemi said there is a Special Jumat Service on Friday the 13th of December 2024. while the Intra – Club competition among the sporting sections has also been staged between 4th of December to 6th

“We are also going to have a health talk on Friday the 13th of December at Ogo Oluwa Bankole Pavillion while the grand finale of the event comes up on Saturday at the Sir Kensington Adebutu Legacy Hall by 2.00PM.

“Similarly, as an administration that believes in contributing her quota to the overall development of the Club and by extension our members and the larger society, we had during executed projects ranging from Complete Replacement of the 3 – Gating system in the Club to aid security Management.

“We have also refurbished Club Bus for smooth operations and for casy participation in Tournament outside the state., Some of our sporting sections have always been receiving attention towards having a befitting sporting facilities to the benefit of our members.

“It is a noteworthy to state that the Club will be commissioning two landmark
projects to commemorate the 120 years anniversary.

“The projects are total renovation of 4 block of our Old Chalets and construction of a befitting Canteen to serve our Chalets need especially at night.

“The Club has played host to some of the games during the 2006 Gateway Games and we are also ready to played our part in the 2024 National Sports Festival as the as the Main Organizing Committee has visited to inspect our facilities this year in preparation for the games.

Speaking on the forthcoming National Sports festival to be hosted by Ogun State, Prince Ogunyemi said the Sports Club will collaborate with the government for the success of the event.

He underscored the club’s contribution towards the success of the 2006 Gateway Games, stating that the main organising committee has visited to inspect the Club’s facilities for the preparation of the games.

According to him “As a sports development club of international standards, we are ready to play our part in the forthcoming National Sports Festival as the main Organising Committee has visited to inspect our facilities this year in the preparation of the games”.

“Sport club will collaborate with Ogun government for the 2024 National Games, Abeokuta Sports Club is number one in West Africa if not Africa, our major focus is for development of sports”.

The President commended Sir Kessington Adebutu for donating an event center for the club to enhance the financial system while lamenting that lack of sponsorship is hindering the development of sports in the state.
