A 23-year-old man from Mncedisi Village, Lower Gweru, has been arrested and charged with assault after a br*tal att@ck on his mother.

The shocking incident occurred on November 18, 2024, and has led to widespread condemnation from the community.

The man, who was reportedly intoxicated, returned home and accused his mother of harbouring hatred towards his wife. The confrontation escalated into violence as he began threatening to kill her. He made chilling remarks about decapitating her before physically attacking her.

In a fit of rage, the man struck his mother multiple times with an iron rod, targeting her left eye, forehead, and other parts of her body. Despite her attempts to flee, he went to the extent of stripp!ng her nak3d to prevent her escape.

Her screams for help alerted neighbours, who intervened and managed to rescue her from further harm. The woman suffered severe injuries, including a deep cut on her forehead and swelling around her left eye, which required urgent medical attention.

Following the assault, the man was arrested and charged with domestic violence. He appeared before the Gweru Magistrates Court, where the details of his violent actions were laid bare. The court found him guilty of the charges on November 29, 2024.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court on December 3, 2024, for sentencing
