A widow, Alhakatu Abdulkarim, and her five children, Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman and Jamilu passed on few hours after they consumed the suspected contaminated delicacy.

Spokesman of the Kano Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed the tragic incident on Sunday, said the victims were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital where they were confirmed dead by doctors.

Haruna however added that the Command has launched an investigation to unravel the mystery behind the deaths.

“We are still waiting for the medical report from the hospital to ascertain the cause of the death of the six persons,” he added.

The incident was said to have occurred last Thursday after the widow, who was the one catering for her five children, allegedly used expired cassava flour to prepare the food.
