An eye witness told Salient Times that the soak-away had been evacuated by the workers on Friday, but the owner, whose name could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, complained to the workers about the blockages at the flow of water.

One of the deceased, identified as Eke, was said to have entered into the soak-away pit to remove the cause of the blockage but could not come out despite efforts to rescue him.

It was gathered that the other victims entered into the pit in a bid to help one another but all met their end.

Their lifeless bodies were brought out and taken to the Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku, where the medical doctor confirmed them dead.

“We are in deep shock over this tragedy. We are suspecting that they inhaled a harmful substance”, a source was quoted as saying
