How Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Died, Family

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, slumped and died late Friday night after returning from a walk, a family source with knowledge of the incident told Salient Times Saturday evening, adding that he had arrived in London three days ago for the summer holidays from Abuja.

According to the source who asked to be anonymous, the businessman cum politician had returned from his walk and complained to his wife, Uchenna, that he was feeling unusually weak and tired.

“Seeing how weak her husband had become, she called emergency services for help. He slumped before the ambulance and first responders arrived at their residence. He was confirmed dead at the hospital,” the source confirmed.

Born September 3, 1971, to the family of Mr. & Mrs. Alphonsus Ubah of Umuanuka, Otolo, Nnewi, Anambra State, Ifeanyi was the first son of seven children.

Due to the inability of his parents to cater for the educational and material needs of their children, Ifeanyi dropped out of Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Abuja to learn trade at a young age.

Fondly called “Ebube Chukwu Uzo”, meaning “Placing God First”, Ubah was a Nigerian politician, entrepreneur and businessman who, until his death, served as the CEO of Capital Oil (CCO), which he founded in 2001. He also ran a foundation which is named after himself; Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation.

He was elected Senator in 2019 on the platform of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) and reelected on the same platform in 2023.

In 2021, he contested the 2021 Anambra governorship election and came fourth in a contest won by Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

In September 2022, Ubah escaped assassination when he was attacked by gunmen on his way to Nnewi in Enugwu-Ukwu in Anambra State. His convoy was shot at and at least five persons, including two policemen, were killed.

Ubah, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this year, has indicated interest in seeking the governorship of Anambra State in the 2025 election.

The deceased was married to Uchenna, a Business Administration graduate from Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria, with whom he had five children
