The Forestry Association of Nigeria (FAN), which is the umbrella body for all foresters in Nigeria has showered encomiums on the Chairman of its Board of Trustees, Chief James Bola Odebiyi as he celebrates his 80th Birthday Anniversary.

The Association in a congratulatory message signed by its National Secretary, Prof. Olukayode Ogunsanwo FFAN described the celebrant as a true champion of Environmental Conservation.

In appreciation of the remarkable contributions of the celebrant to the forestry sector and environmental conservation, the Association expressed love for the celebrant and promised to sustain his legacy of inspiring and motivating younger generations.

The statement partly read ” Your dedication, vision, and leadership have left an indelible mark on our organization and the forestry industry as a whole. Your tireless efforts to promote sustainable forestry practices, conservation, and environmental stewardship have inspired a generation of professionals. Your wisdom, guidance, and mentorship have helped shape the careers of many”.

James Odebiyi, the author of Wings of a Forester was also commended for providing astute and positive leadership as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the noble Association.

“You are the only one in the history of FAN that has led our Association as President twice and to cap it up, you are the reigning Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Under your chairmanship, the Forestry Association of Nigeria has flourished, becoming a beacon of excellence in Sub-Saharan Africa. Your ability to bring people together, foster collaboration, and drive progress has been truly remarkable.


The Association further described the octogenarian as a bridge builder whose influences in forestry and other spheres of life are remarkable and emulatable.


“A bridge builder, mentor, leader and worthy role model who has worked and lived for forestry with evidence dotting all spheres in this country. We celebrate your achievements, your passion, and your unwavering commitment to the forestry sector. You are a true champion of environmental conservation, and your legacy will continue to inspire and motivate us for generations to come.

Born on July 30, 1944, James Bola Odebiyi is a two time President of the Forestry Association of Nigeria and current Chairman of Board of Trustees of the noble Association.
