Media village quarters at Achusa in the outskirt of Benue State Capital has been left in darkness after suspected thieves vandalized a power transformer in the area
Officials said the incident happened in the Media Village area where the residents woke up on Sunday morning to find a cable supplying electricity to the transformer missing.
Residents told Salient Times that it was last Sunday at about 4.a.m after the rain subsided when the suspected vandals gained entrance into the transformer cage well protected and stole ‘uprizers’ and other cables.
According to our Source this is the third time such ugly incident will be taken place in the same area resulting to total blackout in the estate provided as shelter for media men during the leadership of former Governor George Akume now SGF.
In his reaction on the development Chairman Electricity Committee Mr John Umah stated that it is disturbing these scenario persisted stressing this stolen items in the transformer revisited for the third.
” ironically what they’re saying when I met with Jos Electricity Distribution Company JED was that no less than 20
transformers were stolen on same day .
Speaking on the development zonal corporate manager Dr Friday Adakole described the incident as unfortunate.
“We always appealed to customers to ensure adequate protection and security of the facility with a view to benefit each other.
He lamented the persistent theft in the affected community advising inhabitants to constitute vigilante Guards to safeguard the facility.
