The incident reportedly occurred at about 6 pm on Friday around the Genocide cemetery, along mobile barracks-welfare quarters road in Makurdi, capital of the state.

Orbunde alongside Abigail Kashimana, his wife; and Patience Ogute, their maid; were said to have gone to inspect the weeding of their farm when five armed men swooped on them.

Orbunde was said to have sustained a gunshot wound as the gunmen made away with the other two.

Eyewitnesses rushed Orbunde to hospital after the attack.

Catherine Anene, spokesperson of the Benue police command, confirmed the incident

Kidnapping for ransom has been rife in Nigeria’s northern region in the last decade.
